It’s always good day to play outside! Songyard Farms Nature Camp offers our littlest Buds (ages 3-6) and older Branches (ages 6-12) a chance to play and explore our woodland trails, nature play spaces, wildflower labyrinth, storybook trail, reading nooks and outdoor art stations. Campers also get to spend time caring for the farm animals, gardens and enjoy seasonal scavenger hunts and outdoor games galore!

At Songyard Farms, we understand that children learn through play, which is why we provide room for fun and play all around the farm! Campers have the opportunities to learn about their local environment, animal husbandry and sustainability during their time with us. Campers will learn to identify plants they should avoid, invasive plants worth pulling every chance they get, and which plants their favorite birds and pollinators enjoy and need most! They will watch the seasons change, learn the clues the trees give us about the weather, and even have a chance to learn what food is growing in season on the farm. They will be able to forage food for the bunnies and goats and know which plants they love and should avoid. They will get to know the animals and what song a chicken sings when the lay an egg vs the sounds they make when they can’t find their best friend or sense a predator or threat. They will know which goat is likely to eat their art project and which needs the most cuddles. And they will probably have a chance to work as a team to herd a run away pig, quail or bunny! The campers will also get to know the rustic trails in our 25 acres of protected woods and have a chance to help us keep our little corner of the forest healthy! Songyard Farms is on a watershed and has some wonderful natural features for the campers to explore, including vernal pools, wild berries, dense patches of ferns and hundreds of large old maple trees!

Each season of camp brings different experiences. Fall campers have the opportunity to participate in planting bulbs and garlic for spring and summer harvests, to assist with winterizing animal houses to prepare for colder days, to identify and mark maple trees based on their leaves to prepare for harvesting sap in the winter and spring, and to put the gardens to bed for the season. Winter campers will have opportunities to help collect sap to make syrup, learn creative ways to keep water from freezing for the animals to enjoy, hunt for wild animal tracks in the snow to listen for birds to know who stays and who tucks in or tucks tail for winter! They will also have a chance to see what grasses and flowers left to overwinter keep our local birds and animals fed throughout the season. They will observe changes in the animals’ activities including chickens laying fewer and fewer eggs as days get shorter. Spring campers will see everyone and everything wake up! They may have a chance to see baby goats and welcome them to the world, along with chicks and ducklings. Our greenhouse will be busy and early planting will be underway! No matter the season, all campers have a choice of activities each week they are with us. We always have crafts and art activities, games planned, stories to read and tell, and fun nature based challenges for the group like fort building, trailblazing, obstacle courses and more!

The camp director, Stacy Cianciolo, has over 25 years of experience working with children and specializes in autism, ADHD and anxiety. Children of all abilities are welcome and Stacy is happy to discuss your child’s unique needs to ensure a wonderful camp experience for all.

Caregivers are requested to stay with the Nature Buds Campers. Our Branches are welcome to attend under the supervision of our camp counselors. We have one counselor per five campers. While our campers operate at the same time, the spaces will be rotated to ensure ample hands on opportunities await.

Camp sessions run for 10 out 12 weeks. The exact dates are provided one month prior to the start of camp if not sooner. Holidays are avoided.

Nature Buds takes place from 9:30-11:30

Nature Branches takes place from 9:00 to 12:00

Fall sessions begin Saturday August 22nd

Our Buds program is designed for 3-6 year olds with a caregiver.

Our Branches program is designed for 6-12 year olds.

Our camp director, Stacy Cianciolo, has over 25 years of experience working with children and is a mother of three who is passionate about nature, sustainability and play! Stacy is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who specializes in autism and ADHD. If your child has unique needs, we are happy to talk about ways to support them so they can thrive at camp!

Our camp is fully outdoors with tent and barn access if needed.

Join us for our end of summer Yoga Series! We will be meeting the last Sunday of the month at 9:00 for yoga with Optimal Wellness at Songyard Farms.

Bring your yoga mat or towel. Enjoy time with the animals, wander the wildflowers or visit our farm stand after yoga!
