All We Need Is Just a Little Patience
We are leaving the weeds
For the butterflies and bees. And really, can’t we start calling them native plants instead? They deserve a better name. We are learning them all!
Our Vision
At Songyard Farms, our vision includes seeing rows of flowers for cutting and teas, beds full of herbs and vegetables, a lavender labyrinth and a mini orchard all grown sustainably to share with our community. We envision our farm stand stocked with all that we grow as well as homestead goodies like fresh baked breads, cookies, and muffins, soaps and lotions made from ingredients from our farm, candles, salves, dried herbs and teas, tinctures and more.
Our vision also includes animals to lend a hand and bring us joy- rabbits to weed between the rows, pigs to keep the grasses mowed, goats to eat invasive plants and make milk and chickens and ducks to eat bugs and provide eggs! We envision mushrooms and maple syrup produced from our forest, along with trails for exploring, hiking and riding. We see a story book trail and nature playground for children to enjoy, and we see our horse barn and pastures sustainability managed so horses and native species live in harmony.
We practice sustainability by harvesting rain water, using a solar generator instead of electricity, composting, using beneficial bugs and oils and plants for pest control and so much more.
It will take time for our farm to look like it does in our dreams. Our family is working diligently to make that happen! After planting cover crops to amend the soil, we are letting plants grow where they are this spring and summer and are continuously eradicating unwanted species, cultivating beneficial ones and adding more!
It is a big vision-a big dream!
Our Mission
Our mission is to share this dream with our community, especially those who are searching for a place to thrive. We offer social groups for children and teens including those who have autism, ADHD, anxiety or other neurodivergent ways of seeing the world. We offer sensory friendly farm visits, volunteer opportunities for teens of all abilities and vocational exploration for young adults. We also want children and adults alike to learn right alongside us. We are not experts…yet! We are striving to become experts in animal husbandry, sustainable and regenerative farming and woodland management. We would love for you to learn with us!
