Wide Open Spaces

What a beautiful, busy Sunday at Songyard Farms! We had wonderful farm stand visitors, and we hope they all enjoy the eggs, fresh bread, chocolate Easter eggs, candles and more. It brings me such joy to share food with wholesome, simple ingredients with our community!

The animals loved the sunshine today! The ducks have been separated due to too many males to females, causing injury for the poor girl. Tater Tot, our lonely girl duck, and her mate Reggie, have moved back to our house and yard. The three boys wandered peacefully around the farm all day. Fred, the mean rooster who seems to be banished from the co-op, hangs with them. They are an interesting mean little crew and we aren't sure what to do with them!

We separated the boy and girl teenage bunnies today and a few found new homes! Axle, the dad, will now have his adorable son living with him as a buddy. He needs a name!

We are also keeping the chocolate colored and black/silver females who also both need names. The chocolate colored bunny has escaped into the woods three days in a row! We have caught her each time, which is no easy feat! She deserves a name relecting her free spirit, and I'm thinking Dixie. All afternoon as I tried to catch her, the Dixie Chicks song Wide Open Spaces was stuck in my head. I told her room to make her own mistakes in the wild is not all it's cracked up to be when you're so small. She eventually was happy to be reunited with her mama. Dixie may just stick! They all need their new home to be finished for safety and for fun! It will be our focus this week.

The woods and gardens continue to wake up for spring. While hiking today from our farm to our stables, I noticed Spring Beauty emerging and flowering! It's a wonderful flower for pollinators and we hope to cultivate more of it along the trails.

We hope your weekend was full of good food, adventure and beauty just like ours!
